Prime Minister Shinzo Abe informed U.S. President Donald Trump on March 7 that Japan is willing to play a larger security role to counter the growing threat from North Korea.

In response, he suggested, the US and South Korea could abandon Foal Eagle - their annual joint training exercise that infuriates North Korea, which views the drills as preparation for an invasion of its territory.

According to the Japanese government's explanations, Abe stressed the importance of the deterrence concerning North Korea.

"Continued provocative actions by North Korea, to include yesterday's launch of multiple missiles, only confirm the prudence of our alliance decision a year ago to deploy THAAD to South Korea", he said.

He said the DPRK was a "pariah" and an "outlier" in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and "the countries represented in this room are not going to stand by and just let the DPRK violate worldwide law".

It had violated United Nations instructions by continuing with the missile launches, Wang said.

China warned the US and South Korea Tuesday of "consequences" over a sophisticated new missile defense system that the American military began deploying on the peninsula Monday.

Three of the rockets it fired landed in the sea just 190 miles from Japan's coast.

North Korea has put China is difficultires by test firing four missiles on Monday.

"The launches are consistent with North Korea's long history of provocative behavior", he told a press briefing Monday. US forces in the country announced Tuesday that the first components have arrived.

Referring to the North's statement that the launches were a drill for striking US bases in Japan, Abe said Pyongyang's stance was "totally unacceptable".

The planned installation of the US anti-missile defence system has led to a diplomatic standoff between China and South Korea. China called the deployment of THAAD a "wrong move" and urged the Republic of Korea to halt its deployment before the country "ends up hurting itself and others", foreign minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

"Now that the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces again kicked off the risky nuclear war drills against the DPRK at its doorstep, our army will counter them with the toughest counteractions", a spokesman said in a statement carried by the KCNA news agency.
