Sustained high winds and powerful gusts Tuesday and Wednesday have more than 17,247 Consumers Energy customers experiencing an interruption in electric service.

Thousands of workers, including many from out-of-state, are working non-stop to restore power to about 515,000 DTE Energy customers and 100,000 Consumers Energy customers, according to Friday-morning updates from the companies.

Keep in mind to stay at least 25 feet away from a downed power line and treat all intersections without working traffic lights as 4-way stops.

Almost 95,000 customers throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin lost power during storms Monday night.

During a Friday afternoon news conference, DTE President and CEO Jerry Norcia said the company's restoration team is fully mobilized and working around the clock. Customers can also call DTE at 800-477-4747 to report power outages or downed lines. Restoration efforts are expected to continue into the weekend.
