Alexa in the Amazon app supports voice-driven skills already set up in the the Alexa app or on alexa.amazon.com.

Since this is iOS we're talking about, you'll probably wind up using Siri more than you do Alexa.

Think of it as an iteration of Alexa that doesn't require special hardware to function, you basically get the same Alexa experience that you get on a device like the Echo or Fire TV. That app tracks voice search activity for the Echo but doesn't have any voice interaction capability of its own. But those apps didn't have all of Alexa's features like Amazon's music streaming service. Thankfully, you no longer have to do that since the retail giant has brought its virtual assistant straight to its shopping app on Cupertino's mobile platform.

Accessing Alexa is quite simple; you only need to tap the microphone button, which resides beside the camera button within the Amazon app.

Why this matters: In addition to helping iPhone users with basic queries like getting today's weather information, Alexa has a leg-up on Siri.

Because Alexa is inside the Amazon shopping app, of course you can user her to shop. And it could be a huge help to anyone who's filling their home with Alexa-enabled devices. This new integration will allow people to talk to Alexa even if they are not by their house, which is cool considering Alexa was more of a home-device digital assistant before. It's also good to note that while Siri can control HomeKit, Amazon's AI has Alexa Skills to control smart home functions and other devices, as per Apple Insider. But it will also include most of the other functionality Alexa has to offer.

Alexa will begin rolling out to iOS devices today, and should be available to everyone in the USA be next week. You will find that within the next several days, Alexa will become integrated with the Amazon Shopping App. This week, the Seattle-based electronic and cloud computing company updated its official iOS app to add support for its AI assistant.
