At their request, the Government Accountability Office said Tuesday it would investigate Trump's security procedures and taxpayer-funded travel costs at Mar-a-Lago, including "how the President's communications and classified information are secured while traveling, whether a secure space for classified communications has been established at Mar-a-Lago, as well as what, if any, security measures are employed by the Secret Service to screen staff and guests at the resort".

A new bill introduced last week will require Trump to release logs of those that visit his private properties and White House grounds. "Many Americans are rightly anxious about whether the wealthy and well-connected are being given special treatment and undue influence in the Trump White House".

"The American people have a right to know who has access to the President and who has leverage over this administration", Udall said in a statement announcing the bill.

"He joins top administration officials to mingle with the ultra-rich at his "Winter White House" and won't say who paid $200,000 for the privilege", Whitehouse said. That could include Mar-a-Lago.

"If the Secret Service can't keep track of who has access to the president outside the White House then that's a national security concern", Udall told Politico. "The president should end his administration's disturbing pattern of stonewalling information and immediately reinstate the previous administration's policy of publishing White House visitor logs".

Mr Spicer was asked by Fox 5 if Mr Trump was concerned about "pushback" he received from the costs associated with the trips and if this had influenced his decision not to attend Mar-a-Lago last week, or to visit this weekend. The club's members and guests gain frequent access to the president and his advisers.

In the six years since 2009, Obama administration kept and released logs of 6 million visitors to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue after it was sued by a pro-transparency organization. At least one Mar-a-Lago member posted pictures of the open-air discussions to Facebook.
