Following the performance the band was inducted by the Dhani Harrison, the son of the late George Harrison. This was the first year that Pearl Jam was eligible for the Rock Hall.

Another highlight from Friday's ceremony came from David Letterman, who delivered an eloquent speech to induct Pearl Jam. Neil Young was originally scheduled to induct the Seattle rockers, but Letterman was tapped as a last-minute fill-in after Young fell ill.

Nile Rodgers will receive a special honour at the event held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Although the group has had many members over the years, the Hall of Fame inducted keyboardist Richard Tandy, drummer Bev Bevan and multi-instrumentalist Roy Wood alongside Lynne.

Added Snoop: "I'm here to make sure that Pac is remembered the way he would have wanted to be: a strong black man who stood up". Baez later brought Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls on stage to join her in singing, "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down". He then joined Yes for a set that included "Roundabout" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart".

Snoop also paid homage to Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, telling of the night he went to her after Pac was shot in 1996 on the Las Vegas strip.
