We're officially a week into the Major League Baseball season, and the injury bug has already bitten the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals placed shortstop Trea Turner on the 10-day disabled list Monday in a decision Washington manager Dusty Baker says was made easier by baseball's new, shorter DL rule.

Turner left Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the first inning. Pulling up lame while rounding third base, he was replaced by a pinch-runner and exited the game. The hope was that Turner would be back sometime this week, but the youngster is going to take some additional time to heal up. Turner entered the 2017 campaign with extremely high expectations after hitting an incredible.342/.370/.567 across 344 plate appearances past year in his rookie season, though he'll be looking to deliver on that hype at a new position. Stephen Drew was re-signed over the offseason, and with Wilmer Difo gives the club at least two middle infield options off of its bench. He's a dual power/speed threat that is a usual nice fit in the leadoff spot.

Tesla Passes GM as Most Valuable Car Company in America
On the other hand, the manufacturer of luxury electric cars Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) continued to surprise its skeptics. Ford (F), now the third-largest USA carmaker after Tesla surpassed its valuation last week, sold 6.7 million.

Even when factoring in his 3-for-19 (.158) start over his first five games-an extremely limited sample size-Turner is still a player that will make the Nationals better when healthy.

For right now, the Washington Nationals will miss Trea Turner.
