German prosecutors issued an arrest warrant against a 26-year-old Iraqi man detained following an attack on a bus carrying players of a top soccer team, saying on Thursday they believed he was a member of Islamic State.

But, they said, there is now no evidence that he took part in the attack.

The judge who approved the arrest warrant is from the Federal Court of Justice, the country's highest court for criminal and civil jurisdiction.

"The task of his unit was to prepare abductions, kidnappings, extortions and killings", the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

"I saw the game and I was really proud of Borussia Dortmund, how they handled it, how they created this atmosphere".

But UEFA insists they were not informed that Dortmund were not prepared to play the rearranged fixture.

The quarter-final first leg was postponed until Wednesday, and Klopp's successor Thomas Tuchel complained after a 3-2 defeat Dortmund had not even been consulted about the quick rescheduling.

Dortmund were forced to play the match less than 24 hours after the incident and looked noticeably shocked as they suffered a 3-2 loss in front of anxious fans.

Before the match began, fans chanted "Bartra!"

"As I've heard from team circles, many players did not want to play", he said in an interview with Sky, according to Sport Bild. "Bartra!", in support of the injured defender.

"But UEFA exerts pressure and the politicians ask Borussia Dortmund to defy the terrorists".

"We did not want to play this game, not less than 24 hours after an attack", said Swiss goalkeeper Roman Burki. The ex-Manchester United captain admitted his admiration for the Dortmund players for putting on a good performance in an entertaining game and claimed they deserved great credit.

Dortmund player Nuri Sahin was asked after the game how hard it was to turn around and play the day after their lives were targeted, and his comments were striking, saying they hardly thought about the game until it kicked off.
