"Centerfold" ranks at No. 1 on the band's top 10 biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits, followed by "Freeze-Frame".

New York, United States |- J Geils, the blues rock guitarist whose band topped the charts with the party-ready 1981 anthem "Centerfold", died Tuesday, police said. Geils Band, was found dead in his Groton, Massachusetts, home on Tuesday (April 11), police confirmed. Local police report that Geils died of natural causes. Other members included Wolf, Danny Klein, Richard "Magic Dick" Salwitz, Stephen Jo Bladd and Seth Justman.

The band's early albums were not huge sellers but they burnished their reputation with their high-energy performances, eventually releasing three concert LPs during their active days. That track spent six weeks atop the pop charts in the USA, with "Freeze-Frame" atop the album charts for four weeks.

The J Geils Band was sometimes compared to another MA band, Aerosmith, but did not have the same staying power.

"All our love and sympathy to the family and friends of John Warren Geils Jr.", Van Zandt wrote on Twitter. They reached the top 40 with a single from that set, their cover of Bobby Womack's 'Looking For A Love'. Police responded to a welfare check at John's Groton, MA home where he had lived for the past 35 years and found his body April. 11. Geils also released a handful of jazz- and blues-influenced albums over the years. However, Geils officially quit the band in 2012, where he proceeded to sue his bandmates for going on tour without him and using the band's trademarked name.

Twice nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band will once again be put forward next year, but their induction will unfortunately just a little too late for John to celebrate.

While J. Geils will be sorely missed it is certain his music will continue to populate the airwaves and inspire singalongs until the end of time.
