Usually there's much ooh-ing and aaaah-ing over whatever it is that Mark Zuckerberg introduces.

Standing in front of a packed arena and whilst being watched by millions around the world, Zuckerberg explained how Facebook is making the camera the first augmented reality platform. However, this feature is not meant for all, as they not only require the VR headset that costs about US$500 (AU$1,100 approx), but also a very expensive computer to make it work.

Even though the Facebook CEO has not hinted anything about developing AR games, he did say that the popular networking platform is a great hub for businesses to reach people and experiment with AR.

The day two keynote at Facebook's F8 conference (NASDAQ:FB) kicks off with Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer re-echoing the themes the company raised with developers yesterday: artificial intelligence, augmented reality and the camera, virtual reality - and where those all come together. You will be able to drop songs into a group chat.

A better way to find bots: Facebook Messenger has thousands of bots on its platform, but they are hard to find. Developers can apply to have their bot in the curated tab, which has started rolling out to users in the US.

The app is billed as a "virtual" manifestation of Facebook, allowing users to create a personalised avatar before interacting with friends. Also part of the introduction, Facebook launched Facebook Spaces, a virtual reality app where users can view Facebook content with friends in VR, including 360 videos and photos that can transport you to new places. Now Workplace is collaborating with some enterprise partners, like Microsoft, Box, Quip, and Salesforce, in order to ease sharing and organization of files. It has also released the Frame Studio that will let the developers create frames for photos and videos.

This Augmented Reality themed products will definitely affect smartphone companies.

During his F8 kickoff speech, Zuckerberg noted that he had once believed the transition to augmented reality technologies would begin with eyeglasses. We hope that these new tools will soon be our new friends.
