Grizzlies coach Fizdale fined $30000 for refs rant

Memphis coach David Fizdale blasted the officiating in Game 2 of the Grizzlies' first-round series against the Spurs, deeming it "unprofessional" and "unacceptable" before slamming his fist on a table and storming off.

Fizdale excoriated officials after the Grizzlies' 96-82 loss to the Spurs, which left them 0-2 down in the best-of-seven Western Conference first-round series.

The Grizzlies certainly weren't getting any love from the officials in Game 2 which prompted coach Fizdale to criticize them in a fantastic post-game rant so I'm sure that will fire up his squad in Game 3, but I don't think it'll be enough so I'm sticking with the Spurs to get the win and cover the small line.

"Zach Randolph, the most rugged guy in the game, had zero free throws", Fizdale said after Monday's game.

One of Fizdale's guys is former Kentucky guard Andrew Harrison who played 23 minutes Monday, scoring two points and dishing out four assists.

Memphis played its typical style, but the free throws didn't come despite 35 shot attempts in the lane.

Their first opponent in Round 1 of the playoffs is the San Antonio Spurs. That's unacceptable. That was unprofessional. Fizdale blamed the refs.

The first-year coach inferred there was a lack of respect from the referees for the Grizz that resulted in the Spurs attempting 17 more free throws than the Grizzlies. "And they did not even give us a chance". We had 15 free throws for the game! They've had several games this season where they built big leads at home only to see let them slip away. No, but they respect me as a person, I feel like. "Have I complained about it? Just keep playing hard". It's also unclear whether head coach David Fizdale will elect to play Tony Allen, or hold him out and not risk further injury.

"But, again, I'm not going to emphasize it".

"I assume that a guy that has been 20-plus years successful and has the status of coach Pop, and I'm a guy who just comes into the league and gets a head coaching job, I might not get the same treatment", Gasol said. I'm not going to point it out.

To help his case, tensions were high after the Grizzlies loss.
