ME officials say the state has reached its lowest unemployment rate on record.

Charleston continued to show some of the fastest growth in the state, adding jobs at a 3.3 percent clip over the year.

The national unemployment rate sits at 4.5 percent after decreasing two-tenths of a percentage point from February.

Local unemployment numbers for March won't be out until next week, but Springfield had an unemployment rate of 7.3 percent in February, up a tenth of one percent from January.

The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations noted that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state was 2.7%, compared to 2.8% in February.

Employment Security paid unemployment insurance benefits to 65,733 people in March.
