The man who police say shot a Cleveland retiree at random and posted video of the killing on Facebook was recognized by the drive-thru attendant of a McDonald's restaurant outside Erie, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday morning.

McDonald's employees in Erie, Pennsylvania followed this motto and subsequently ended the nationwide manhunt for the "Facebook Killer", Steve Stephens.

"After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself", they tweeted. Williams added that police "wanted to bring him in safely" so they could talk to him to try to understand his motives.

Stephens fatally shot Robert Godwin Sr.in Cleveland on Easter Sunday, blaming the murder on Joy Lane. It was just the latest instance of crime footage being shared on social media.

He said Stephens then drove away without the fries.

Stephens is believed to have videotaped his actions and published it on Facebook, along with another video threatening to kill others and claiming he had already killed 13 people.
