Trump friend: Mueller 'illegitimate as special counsel'
Gingrich Doubts Mueller's Integrity After Looking at His Staff
19 June, 2017, 05:16
Liberal CNN contributor April Ryan claims there's "mass hysteria" over rumors that President Trump may fire Robert Mueller as special counsel in charge of investigating alleged collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.
"I think that Sean [Spicer] is doing something unusual and different, which is making a news story where one doesn't exist..."
That said, firing the two people heading up the Russian Federation investigation in the span of a little more than a month - including one recently appointed by the Justice Department - would seem to be very hard to justify.
"I personally think it would be a very significant mistake", Ruddy continued, "even though I don't think there's a justification ... for a special counsel in this case".
But firing Mueller would be a political bomb in Washington.
Both Fleischer and Gingrich had previously vouched for the character and integrity of Mueller, who was appointed Federal Bureau of Investigation director by Bush and whose term was extended an extra two years by Democratic President Barack Obama.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said it would be "extraordinarily unwise".

Cindra Ladd, one of the 13 who could not take the stand, issued a statement thanking Constand for "her leadership and courage". McMonagle, in his closing argument, pointed out that Constand telephoned Cosby dozens of times after the alleged assault.
And the White House deputy press secretary, Sarah Sanders, has been asked about this many times. The move would be Nixonian. If Rosenstein refused, Trump could fire him, too - a series of events that would recall the "Saturday Night Massacre" during Watergate, when President Richard M. Nixon sought to dismiss a special prosecutor, Archibald Cox.
Under current Justice Department regulations, such a firing would have to be done by Attorney General Jeff Sessions' deputy, Rod Rosenstein, not the president- though those regulations could theoretically be set aside. If Sessions did recuse himself, it would fall to Rosenstein to fire the guy who he'd appointed weeks earlier. "If there were not good cause, it wouldn't matter to me what anybody says".
Rosenstein said that, under the special counsel regulations, he is the only department official with the authority to get rid of Mueller. That's what I would do. Rosenstein would be the one to fire Comey, which he repeatedly assured senators Tuesday he would not consider without "good cause". If Trump knows that neither he nor those close to him did anything wrong, it would be in his and their interest for Mueller to remain and clear him.
"If President fired Bob Mueller, Congress would immediately re-establish independent counsel and appoint Bob Mueller", Schiff tweeted. "I think it'd be a disaster".
Of course it didn't matter in the end with Bellinger's dinger, but Kipnis's slowly declining defense isn't fun to watch. The Indians' third baseman that night was Casey Blake, who had a single and a double against Kershaw.
He tried to play a ideal shot and barely got it out, then chipped down to 5 feet and missed the putt, making double bogey. He had said his breathing exercises over putting didn't mean he would always have good days, and this was a bad one.
