Instagram has updated its iOS and Android apps with the ability to save and later share live broadcasts you've hosted on the social media network's Stories platform that was introduced last August.

Facebook's global head of sales, Carolyn Everson, in an interview with CNBC, said Instagram Stories now boasts 250 million daily active users - a third of which are businesses and one million are advertisers. Last November, Instagram added an option for people to live-stream themselves; these broadcasts would appear within viewers' Stories feed, but only while the broadcast was airing.

In comparison, Snapchat somewhat sluggishly hit 166 million daily users in May.

Instagram's Snapchat Stories clone, aptly named Instagram Stories, is now being used by 250 million users every day.

Both Instagram Stories and Snapchat serve as disappearing message platforms that use photos to connect users.

Shares of Facebook fell 0.2% to $152.61 early Tuesday afternoon.

Instagram says that the live video replay feature is now only rolling out to its mobile apps on Android and iOS. The new feature allows users' friends or followers to catch up the moments they missed.

Instagram has continually been adding new features and functionality to the Stories feature, most recently announcing new stickers arriving for summer this week. If you said or did something embarrassing in the video, no worries: just press "Discard" and your video will disappear from the app, just like normal.
