The Android Market will finally die on June 30

We haven't heard much about the Android Market ever since it was replaced by Google Play back in 2012, but that's changing today.

Google officially announced that the tech firm will end its support to all Android Market on devices running Android 2.1 Eclair or below.

From June 30, 2017, users having Android 2.1 and below will no longer be able to access or install apps from the Android Market.

Google mentions, however, users with these devices will not receive any notice about the end of the Android Market on their devices, due to "technical restrictions".

The Android Market was the original app store for Android devices, and it was first introduced by Google in 2008. Google also said that these versions of Android OS "account for only a small number of installs". Google's monthly usage breakdown of Android versions doesn't even show 2.1 Eclair, which means that it only has less than a 0.1 percent market share. If you remember, Google Play Store never came to these early Android devices.

According to SlashGear, Google has still up to this point managed the Android Market for these old phones despite the passed seven long years. Sadly, while it'll forever remain as a symbol of Android's birth, it looks like Google has finally made a decision to pull the plug on the already-defunct app store. Plus, side-loading apps will probably remain as an option.

Also, Xavier can now steal pretty much any data from an infected device and collect information such as email addresses, app files, SIM card information, and even messages. In fact, the version of the app store that is carried on the old mobile devices is said to be the pre-Google Play.

Devices running Android 2.1 and below will lose support for the Android Market app on June 30.
