The University of DE has cut ties with an adjunct professor who suggested that Otto Warmbier, a college student whose death last week after being imprisoned in North Korea drew worldwide attention, was a "clueless white male" who "got exactly what he deserved". Warmbier was one of three Americans now known to be detained by North Korea.
North Korea on Friday denied reports that it had mistreated the former USA detainee OttoWarmbier and described his sudden death as a "mystery", in the country's first public statement since the announcement of the 22-year-old's death on Wednesday.
US doctors who travelled to the North last week to bring Warmbier home recognised that the North had provided him with medical treatment, the spokesman said.
North Korea's statement said the country still believed Warmbier had committed a "hostile act" against the DPRK on assignment from the Z Society, the Friendship United Methodist Church and the Central Intelligence Agency, citing Warmbier's February 2016 confession that led to his sentence of 15 years of hard labor in March of that year.
Warmbier, 22, was detained for a year and died mere days after he was released to the UnitedStates in a vegetative state.
President Trump said on Monday North Korea's authorities were responsible for the student's death, stressing that his administration planned to prevent any new such incidents.
USA officials and Warmbier's father have said there's no connection between Mr. Rodman's visit and the student's release.

NorthKorean officials claimed that Warmbier's coma was caused by botulism and a sleeping pill, though doctors found no evidence of the disease, and believe he was beaten until he went into cardiopulmonary arrest. This sentiment is also aired on Pyongyang's state-run news agency that the USA and SouthKorea are deeply invested in conducting "smear campaign" tactics to gain support. "He went to North Korea, for fuck's sake, and then acted like a spoiled, naive, arrogant, UnitedStates college student who had never had to face the consequences of his actions".
OttoWarmbier was laid to rest Thursday, less than two weeks after he was returned to the UnitedStates from North Korea.
Accused of stealing a propaganda sign from a hotel, he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labour. Rodman, who reportedly has a personal friendship with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, traveled to the communist country June 13.
The five-time National Basketball Association champion flew to North Korea to visit the despot leader and claimed he then found out Mr Warmbier was ill so insisted he was released back to his family in OH that day.
Doctors who examined Warmbier upon his arrival in the US described his condition as a state of "unresponsive wakefulness", and indicated he suffered a "severe neurological injury" of unknown cause.
More than 2,500 family, friends and well-wishers gathered for his funeral in OH on Thursday.
