Incorrect data shows Amazon, Apple stocks crashing

Apple, Google and other Nasdaq Stocks Swing Wildly in After-Hours Trading Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon share prices swings wildly as trading closes early
Heather Davidson | 05 July, 2017, 00:37

Some websites incorrectly showed Amazon plunging 87%, Apple dropping 14% and Microsoft jumping 79% late Monday.

Nasdaq said the misleading prices came from test data it sent out that was "improperly" used by third party companies that supply information to websites.

Amusingly, other companies with generally far lower average share values saw their stock prices jump into the stratosphere. "Any data messages received post 5:16 PM should be deemed as test data and purged from direct data recipient's databases".

Nasdaq added "unlisted trading privileges", a right granted by the Securities and Exchange Commission allowing exchanges to facilitate trading of stocks listed on other official United States exchanges as well, may have been a factor in the error.

"We want these mistakes to happen when the market is closed on a holiday, rather than when the market is open for business". At 6:30pm EDT, hours after the market closed early, some of the incorrect prices started to appear on financial websites.

A freaky computer glitch led to the stock prices of several U.S. technology companies including Amazon and Google to be dramatically undervalued on Tuesday morning, leading to some losing billions in value.

It is possible that this value of $ 123.47 relates to test data transmitted on the Nasdaq IS. Nasdaq is reportedly working with providers to solve the matter. Perhaps someone started the festivities a little too early and distributed the test data by mistake. But yesterday a data glitch resulted in the Nasdaq reporting incorrect share prices for many high profile United States tech stocks.
