Police said the victim was taken to the hospital and the injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

The Metropolitan Police say the incidents appear to be linked and two involved victims having their mopeds stolen.

The male teenager is being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery.

Officers said they were linking the attacks.

Former UK minister Stephen Timms said carrying acid should be made an offence and suggested licensing the purchase of sulphuric acid as he urged a change in sentencing guidelines.

The first attack reported was in Haggerston at the traffic lights in Hackney Road with Queensbridge Road when a 32-year-old moped rider had a corrosive substance thrown in his face by two men on another moped that pulled up alongside him.

"In the next hour and a half, three other men across Hackney and one in the [neighboring] borough of Islington had corrosive substances hurled at them, police said". A 15-year-old boy was later taken into custody on the same allegations, according to police, who appealed for witnesses to come forward.

At 11:37pm, a man in his mid-20s had his moped stolen after two men pulled up alongside him and squirted a noxious liquid in his face in Chatsworth Road, Clapton. All the victims were attacked while riding mopeds. The suspects then took off with the victim's vehicle.

A series of London acid attacks and a subsequent investigation has led to Metropolitan Police arresting two teenagers Thursday night in connection with the incidents.

British police said late Saturday they had charged a teenage boy after five moped riders were sprayed with a corrosive substance during a 90-minute period last week.

"Corrosive acids like sulphuric acid are very lethal and life damaging substances".

The Home Office is working with police and the Ministry of Justice to determine whether powers available to the courts, such as sentencing, are sufficient. Police had cordoned off the little area around the pavement and there was just a guy standing on my doorway and they were pouring huge, five-litre bottles of water over his head.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are trying to trace the suspects.
