Everton have confirmed that they are interested in Gylfi Sigurdsson, with Coach Ronald Koeman himself confirming that the Blues are chasing the Icelandic star.

Clement has not ruled out bringing new players in but said it is "more than likely we'll go into the first game as we are", when they start their campaign at Southampton on Saturday, 12 August.

Everton are believed to have upped their offer for the player to include a number of add-ons which will take the package to £45million, although the Swans are understood to value the midfielder at nearer £50million.

"But my focus is on the players I'm working with and getting ready for the season".

The Iceland global was omitted from his side's final pre-season friendly with Sampdoria on Saturday as he sought to resolve his Liberty Stadium future.

Hartson, who won 51 caps for Wales and scored 14 goals, believes Swansea are not reliant on funds generated by Sigurdsson's sale should Clement wish to strengthen his squad. "But he's training every day with the squad and if the situation changes he is going to be ready for us". That is the picture and what is best for our team.

"So, there is no point discussing the speculation about him or any other players we've been linked with".

"There has been no further update since I last spoke to the media on Wednesday", he said.

"He is recovering from the broken arm he suffered on holiday, he's working hard to play for us and he was a key player for us last season".

"Three positions we need".
