Darren Daulton - a former all-star catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies - has died after a long battle with brain cancer.

According to a report from ESPN, Daulton's cause of death was glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, as his passing came a little more than four years after he was first diagnosed in 2013. He announced he was cancer free in 2015, but the disease returned.

Todd Kalas, Harry's son and the current Houston Astros play-by-play announcer, tweeted yesterday evening that his father's favorite Phillies team that he ever got to announce for was the 1993 National League championship team.

Daulton's final game was Game 7 of the '97 World Series, when the Marlins defeated the Cleveland Indians in extra innings.

Daulton spent his 14 seasons as the Phillies' catcher. The dream was ended by the defending world champion Toronto Blue Jays in a six-game World Series. Daulton represented the Phillies on three separate occasions at the MLB All-Star game as a player during his career, while hitting 134 home runs and driving in 567 runs. "In addition to being an outstanding clubhouse leader, he was also a fighter".

Eiffel Tower Evacuated Over Terror Threat
When arrested on Saturday night, the man was reportedly wearing the colors of the Paris Saint-Germain soccer team. France has been under a state of emergency since November 2015 attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead.

"At 6'2", he was tall for a catcher, and his knees took the brunt of his bigger size over the years, leading to 9 knee operations over the course of his career, but also earning him a reputation as an incredibly tough player as he played through many of those injuries until he could barely move before succumbing to surgery. He led the National League in RBIs with 109 in 1992, becoming the fourth catcher to win the NL RBI title along with Carter, Roy Campanella and Johnny Bench. He was drafted by the Phillies in 1980 and made his debut with the team three years later after playing for the AA Reading Phillies.

'I really enjoyed watching him for 14 years in uniform.

'Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Amanda, his parents, his brother and his four children. Darren was a super human being.

"Darren was a true leader of men", read a statement from Phillies chairman emeritus Bill Giles. "In fact, he called me 'Uncle Bill'".
