Continuing the year of surpriseconclusions during live TV events, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund won the Miss America pageant on Sunday night, the first time in the show's almost 100-year history that the state has claimed the prize.

In an interview with The Associated Press before preliminary competition began, Mund, who lives in Bismarck, North Dakota, said her goal is to be the first woman elected governor of her state.

According to her Miss America bio, Cara's "interesting fact" is that her ancestors have been the first to do a number of things across history, something she's hoping to follow in.

Mund captured the judges attention from the start of the competition on Wednesday with her unmatched beauty, impeccable intellect and, perhaps even more admirable, charitable heart.

During the interview, Mund was asked about the US withdrawal from the Paris accord on climate change.

Mund said during the pageant that her mother is her biggest role model.

Climate change does exist; the matter is if the Paris climate Accord would address the underlying drivers and the financial cost.

The new Miss America was crowned yesterday night in Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Noting that over half of Americans want Confederate statues left in place, she asked if Miss Schoeffel thought they should be removed.

Cara Mund, this year's North Dakota, won the Miss America pageant. The contestants had to answer a fairly hard question in just 20 seconds and Mund did great during this segment too.

"It's important to have a woman's perspective", said Mund, who had an internship in the Senate with Senator John Hoeven.

"She's a lovely girl, so happy for you", another told Mund's mother. In August, she encouraged her followers on Instagram to "get involved with @makeawishamerica by contacting your local chapter!" "They ruined the Miss America pageant with political correctness".

"I think that the white supremacist issue, it was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack". Miss Texas. Margana Wood has been getting plenty of social media accolades for her slamming of white supremacy.
