Nintendo Urges Public: Don't Pay More Than $80 for SNES Classic

Nintendo Increases SNES Inventory and Revives NES Classic SNES Classic Production Has Been 'Dramatically Increased,' Says Nintendo

There have been plenty of claims that Nintendo was purposefully limiting stock to increase demand, but Fils-Aime denies that was the case.

The Super NES Classic Edition is out on September 29 and Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime really doesn't want you to pay too much for it. The first round of SNES Classic pre-orders sold out in a few minutes, but Nintendo says that's all out of its control.

And when the retro console does launch, Nintendo's president said buyers shouldn't have to pay more than the $79.99 retail price. Indeed, pre-orders sold out nearly instantly last month, but Nintendo says it's planning to ramp up production this time rather than ignore the problem.

Unfortunately, as we learned in 2016 with the NES Classic Edition re-release - and again last month, when the SNES Classic Edition pre-order fiasco happened - that's unlikely to happen.

Given how quickly pre-orders sold out, the impending micro-console is already going for roughly £200 on eBay ahead of its 29th September launch.

Nintendo Promises More Stock Of SNES Mini

Earlier this year, Nintendo discontinued the NES Classic less than six months after its November 2016 launch. Indeed, the NES Classic runs for many times over its initial price point at some auction sites.

And yet. Many of us were burned by Nintendo promises a year ago.

It's not easy to find a Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo wants you to know that they can't guarantee that it's going to get any easier. Turn that frown upside-down my friend because, if Reggie Fils-Aime is to be believed, the holy house of Nintendo is going to take care of those greedy hoarders.

After being questioned on whether the shortage might be due to parts needed from external suppliers, the charismatic president confirmed that "there are multiple choke points" but refused to go into any further details.
