Pope Francis: 'History will judge' a lack of action on climate change

Thousands Greet Pope in Villavicencio, Colombia Pope embraces Colombian victims, ex-fighters in peace bid

"Man is stupid, the Bible said", he said, according to the New York Times.

"Those who deny it, should go to the scientists and ask them", the pope added.

Francis is one of the world's most high-profile campaigners on environmental issues, actively supporting efforts to combat climate change and its consequences. And we have a responsibility - all of us. If someone has doubts about man-made climate change, they must go to the scientists, and then make their decisions: "And history will judge the decisions".

His words were direct, but hardly new.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis, aka the Pope was on a visit to Colombia when the incident happened, travelling through vast crowds in his Popemobile - a vehicle created to allow crowds to see God's representative on earth while keeping him safe at the same time.

"He said no, he was not going to do it".

He has regularly criticised politicians in comments seen by many as a swipe at President Donald Trump's decision to pull the United States out of the COP21 Paris Agreement which binds countries to national pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"Very little about the GOP agenda is "pro-life", they conclude". He said, though, that separating young people from their families is not good either for the young or for the family.

Though the pope didn't mention Trump specifically while addressing climate change, he's pressed Trump on it before, handing Trump his 2015 climate change letter, "Laudato Si: On the Care of the Common Home".

Consuela, from Choco, Colombia, said: "Now I want to live". Noting that the policy was crafted by the executive branch, rather than through the legislature, the Pope said there may be hope that it could be considered anew.

But the other reason, he said, is nearly always money. In the end, they are the ones who will determine whether Colombia truly has peace after 52 years of civil war. But he said governments have to manage refugee flows "with prudence", taking into account how many people it can successfully integrate into its society.

"Your repeated expressions about God's infinite mercy move me to plead your forgiveness for any tears and pain that we have caused the people of Colombia", Londono wrote. This is my hope. "I believe in this".

Seeing this devotion of parents for the children, he said, is "a symbol of hope, of future".
