Ryanair says has complied with United Kingdom regulator's demands

Ryanair to cancel more flights Ryanair Axing 34 Winter Routes Over Roster Mess
Mae Harvey | 30 September, 2017, 04:25

In a letter to the Dublin-based carrier, it is stated that Michael O'Leary failed to tell passengers they could be rerouted with other airlines if there were no suitable alternative on one of its planes. The CAA said it must have the draft text of this email - which must contain "accurate and comprehensive information on their rights and options" - from the airline by 5:00 p.m. Monday.

Ryanair has complied with regulator demands and updated its website to explain to customers with cancelled flights that they could potentially be re-routed to their destination.

The airline initially blamed a rota mistake, leading to a shortage of available pilots.

It will also have to publicly state this, making customer options clear. "There won´t be more flight cancellations caused by the quadrants this winter or in the summer of 2018", said the executive.

The CAA did not say what action it would take if Ryanair did not comply, but it has the power to take court action against carriers that fail to comply with consumer rights laws.

Ryanair to cancel more flights
Ryanair given until 5pm today to sort out compensation over cancelled flights.

If these options are not availabl, they state that they can then offer the customer re-accommodation by train, bus or auto hire "with the cost of this comparable transport ticket to be assessed on a case by case basis".

A Ryanair spokesman said: "We sincerely apologise to those customers who have been affected by last week's flight cancellations, or the sensible schedule changes announced".

It is promising over 1 million seats from £9.99, with some flights to France going as cheap as £4.99.

However, it has emerged that Ryanair may force customers seeking flights with another airline in lieu of a cancelled Ryanair flight may be told to take busses or drive themselves in hire cars instead. Over the past week we have refunded/re-accommodated over 97 per cent of the customers affected by the 18 September cancellations.

The CAA accused Ryanair of failing to inform passengers about its obligation to cover expenses incurred because of a cancelled flight, such as hotels and meals.
