Trump on Iran nuke accord: It's the 'worst deal. We got nothing'

Trump is expected to decline this week to certify Iran's compliance in the 2015 agreement, referring it to Congress. They list Iranian support for the brutal Assad regime in Syria and the terrorist group Hezbollah, as well as its illegal ballistic missile program, as examples, but the deal was never meant to cover those issues.
The other signatories to the JCPOA - the UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and Iran, have said it is not realistic to try to renegotiate its terms. The requirement for certification that Iran is complying with the deal came out of the dissatisfaction by Republicans over the Obama administration's agreement. These waivers are part of the deal and represent the U.S.'s commitment to the agreement; in exchange, Iran abides by limits on its nuclear enrichment activities and opens itself to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"The decision by Trump to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement, nearly guarantees that [North Korean leader] Kim Jong-un will not negotiate with America", Murphy said.
"If the feeling is that the United States no longer supports the agreement, then the political reality is that the agreement will be in serious jeopardy and its implementation will be very hard", a senior French diplomat said.
Engel said the U.S. must "live up to our word".
"Once that we have an agreement that is functioning, that is working, that is delivering, the worst thing you can do is trying to dismantle it, also because you would show the way to others that making deals actually is not worth it, because the message that America would send to the rest of the world is that America cannot be trusted upon", she said.
In Tampa, Florida, the head of U.S. Central Command said he was concerned about Iran's long-term activities in the region and he would continue to focus on protecting U.S. troops, even as Iran has said U.S. regional military bases would be at risk if further sanctions were passed.

European officials have categorically ruled out renegotiating the deal, but have said they share Trump's concerns over Iran's destabilizing influence in the Middle East.
Many disagree Iran is in compliance with the JCPOA, including Senators Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, David Perdue, R-Ga., and Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who spelled out major instances of Iranian noncompliance and cheating in a July 11, 2017 letter to Secretary of State Tillerson. Under the deal, which started being implemented in January 2016, Iran undertakes to limit its nuclear activities and allow transparent global control of its nuclear program. Among the lawmakers who signed the letter were Engel and 12 other House Democrats who had criticized the deal when it was reached two years ago. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., and Nita Lowey, D-N.Y. Instead, the president's national security advisers - led by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson - have presented him with two absurd options to "decertify" the JCPOA but to keep the United States in this deeply flawed agreement.
Deutch said the danger of walking away from the agreement is that those expiration dates "would have effectively dropped from a decade to a day" because Iran would be freed of its obligations under the deal. "Trump's foreign policy is a disaster and must be stopped", concluded Sen.
"I think I speak for a lot of us who opposed the agreement. We may have to array our forces to prepare for. calibrated strikes". "We don't want to see the United States violate it".
